My 10 Must-Haves for Fall Fashions 2015

As I browse through the thick September issue of California Style magazine and blog about the current Style Week OC fashions, I noticed some clothing pieces and accessories that keep shop up through the magazine. During Labor Day weekend, I did stop by Charlotte Russe to check out their weekend sale, and I bought five times, blanket-style plaid cape, wine-colored lacy top, wine-colored off-shoulder top, tie-dye ruffled off-shoulder summery top, and long beige cardigan. I also loomed my own halter tops in different colors, using the round looms and youtube demos.

  1. Blanket-style cape ponchos. I just bought a plaid one from Charlotte Russe Labor Day Sale, but I noticed others in different prints as well as stripes. The one in this magazine is in color-block colors.
  2.  Thigh-high boots. I have an over-the-knee black boots from the nineties, which I think I received for Christmas. Mine is flat, and it has round gold rings on the outer sides of the boots. I only wear these boots during the wintertime, when it kind of gets cold here in southern California.  But I also have thigh-high socks, from the nineties era, which I think are similar to thigh-high boots.
  3. A floral jacquard dress kind of looks like a shift dress with a high collar. It also looks like an Asian design.
  4. Cross-body purse is small, and it has a small handle as well as a long strap. I have a lot of these purses from the past. It looks like a messenger-style purse, which looks like a messenger bag because of the front flap, but it is much smaller.
  5. Shoes with stacked heels and tapered heels. I am not sure if I have such shoes, but I have a lot of shoes anyway.
  6.  I also noticed lots of long vests, and some look furry. So, I am hoping the furry ones are fake fur. Long vests look good for the fall fashions layered look, with turtleneck, sweater, and even a scarf. And, I already have a couple of vests because I like wearing vests in a layered look during the fall season. But I did buy a long beige cardigan for a similar look.
  7. Lace and embroidered clothes.
  8. Vintage Preppy outfits remind me of Urban Outfitters clothes, in which I like their clothes and accessories anyway because they are fun, but I probably won’t wear vintage preppy in the same way as the runway models because they kind of look too homeless and unfashionable. I will probably wear vintage preppy outfits in a more coordinated way, making sure to at least match colors or put clothes together in a more coordinated but edgy version.
  9.  Vintage Babydoll dresses remind of Japan street scene as well as 50s and 60s clothes. It is all about bringing back the past, and wearing the pieces differently in order to modernize the same look. I am a little old to be dressing the “babydoll look,” but my version would probably entail thigh-high socks with skater skirt, and ruffled or lacy blouse. I might even add a cute hat or hair accessory to this outfit, along with a scarf. But, I think, the perfect shoes with this babydoll outfit would probably be platforms or wedges or maybe over-the-knee boots, loafers or mary-janes.
  10. Hats are popular for fall, which includes classic berets, fedoras, loomed knits, other knit store-bought hats, like my cool one from Australia/New Zealand.

I notice lots of arts and culture, runway fashions, and latest fashions. I will list and describe seven different styles for fashion and home décor in the next seven posts on today’s blogging agenda. So, look for The Artist Look, The Bicoastal Traveler, The Professional, The Novelist, The World Traveler, The Urban Dweller, and The European Style. But before I start, I will make a tasty salad, comprised of arugula, romaine lettuce, and broccoli pieces as well as chopped onion, vegan shredded cheese, and top with cold and juicy watermelon pieces.

1st Fall Fashion 2015 Profile: The Artist Look.

The Artists style includes crewneck sweaters with graphic prints as well as clothes with photograph scenes. Lacy pantyhose look like tattoo art. This artist lives in his/her one room studio, where she/he has everything they need anyway because they are happily content with their current and personal life. The walls are decorated with collages from the artist’s past, which is almost like a nostalgia room or 3D version of their photo album. This studio home is filled with vintage finds, often found discarded off the street somewhere as well as scavenging garage sales and thrift shops. Occasionally, artists might drop by the local dumpster and garbage dump location. It is all about finding something unique, antique, and interesting to add to their vintage collection. A large table in the studio is filled with stacks of inspirational books, as well as sculptures, plants, pictures, and artwork. Add your own photo albums on this book stacks because your own past can inspire you to move forward. Or, you photo album might even be an inspiration to your visitors, who will see you as their muse.

2nd Fall Fashions 2015 Profile: The Bicoastal Traveler
Saturday, September 12, 2015
The Bicoastal traveler is always on the go, from the coastal beaches of southern California to the busy downtown city life of NYC and LA. This person toggles between working on their projects and relaxing amidst nature and animals in a secluded location. Their fashion style is very casual and natural, preferring basic solid colors and stripes. But occasionally they will add interesting pieces, such as metallic-colored jacket with lace-up front and drawstring bottom, cute ankle boots, and a large blue purse.  Other must-have accessories include chain bracelets, high heel sandals, and a beach towel. This person kitchen might include ceramic bowls and plates, where they enjoy healthy vegetarian dishes, such as a variety of colorful salads. A simple photograph decorates her modern and minimalist house, as well as her book collection and photo albums. This person might often seem like a recluse because of his/her meditation amidst nature, whether a park or beach, but they will occasionally take excursions to vegan restaurants, artist malls, and nature malls. Their favorite hangouts might be Malibu, Venice Beach, and Melrose Avenue.

3rd Fall Fashions 2015 Profile: The Professional
 Saturday, September 12, 2015
The Professional has a business casual style, where he/she likes to dress elegant but laidback and comfortable. This person’s home even has the same elegant style, but casual and comfortable feel. The furniture seems to look modern but simple, similar to IKEA furniture. There are modern props, fixtures, stacks of books and magazines decorating coffee tables, side tables, and magazine racks. Such people have the clean and polished style of San Francisco, OC, and West Hollywood because living in the city brings a certain excitement and adventure to their life. They are always on the go, whether hanging out in downtown Costa Mesa in OC area, West Hollywood in LA, or up north in San Francisco.  They might even venture out toward Hollywood to check out iconic buildings of Old Hollywood. Their favorite purse is the large twisted cabas in color-block. It holds everything they need for a long day of work and play. A perfect clothing piece might include a multifunctional long trench vest in a neutral color, which can be worn as an elegant shirtdress, tunic with leggings or skinny jeans, or layered with turtleneck, cardigan, scarf and tights. Shoes and purses are also in a similar neutral color. Their office space is their home, which is decorated in simple but modern furniture. Their walls are filled with their own photographs and artworks, which looks more like a personal art gallery studio. Lots of big pillows and throw blankets decorate their couches and bed. Their favorite jewelry piece is a class ring, either from college or high school.

4th Fall Fashions 2015 Profile: The Novelist Style
Saturday, September 12, 2015
The Novelist is a do-it-yourselfer, preferring to do everything on their own to express themselves as the save money. They started by remodeling an old, rundown place into a fresh-faced modern studio, which they are proud and happy to call home because they did it themselves and on their own. This studio might be located at an industrial location, or just a small and sleepy town. This Novelist is also an artist, designing his/her own book covers and promo material. This person is currently working on their fifth sequel to their novel because their story continues as their personal journey in life continues. Some of these strange writers might be named Lulu, Momo, Kiki, Vivi, Bebe, ChiChi, Gigi, and even Fifi. Their favorite fashion accessories are shoes, and always find a reason to buy a new pair of shoes to add in their collection. They make a statement with the shoes they wear because their clothes are very basic and simple, such as denim, t-shirts, tank tops, shirtdresses, tank dresses, sweatshirts, and sweaters. They occasionally will buy iconic jewelry, such as diamond-studded hoop earrings. This fall season’s shoe collection will include loafers, sling-back, and mary janes in stacked heels. Each pair stands out with its bold features. One might be in a bold turquoise color, while the other pair might have colorful gems and embellishments. And, one pair might just look classic and elegant. Each pair has a personality its own, as each pair brings life to the person who wears them, enabling the person to transform themselves into that personality, style, or image. When not working on their writing or novels, this person will loom an outfit or accessory that will fit in with their wardrobe.

5th Fall Fashions 2015 Profile: The World Traveler
Saturday, September 12, 2015
The World Traveler loves to travel, meet different people and check out different cultures, whether in real life or via the internet. They often get interesting inspirations from other countries and other people in faraway locations. Everything they own tends to be from a different country because they don’t really shop much, but instead they will buy one expensive souvenir from a different country or a new foreign designer in order to make a statement. Their personal collection might include vintage sunglasses or eyeglasses from Paris, handmade blouse from Nepal, loungewear from Japan, and modern Scandinavian furniture from Sweden. This person lives in a loft-style space, where they also have their own workshop as well as their gallery to display their work and designs. They have a simple life, often taking a stroll in their neighborhood to enjoy Saturday brunch at a café, before stopping at a haircut place for their seasonal hairstyle. On Sunday morning, they might stop by the bakery for their breakfast, before stopping at the florist to buy a bouquet for their coffee table. For this person, it is all about living at the present moment, making the most of your own life.

6th Fall Fashions 2015 Profile: The Urban Dweller
Saturday, September 12, 2015
The Urban Dweller lives in a warehouse-style home, which looks like a huge studio with lots of space, but it looks more like an office space, where this person continuous working on projects, drawings, designing, like a workaholic. Some items found in this loft include artist apron, braided baskets, totes, attache and purses, twill jackets, and casual and comfortable weekend-wear. There are also books stacked on the floor as well as inspirational pictures and drawings decorating the walls. This person’s personal philosophy is it is not about the money, but it is all about the work and inspirational ideas.

7th Fall Fashions 2015 Profile: The European Style
Saturday, September 12, 2015
The European Style is all about creating a comfortable living space that is filled with luxury, or as this year’s Style Week OC calls it, Modern Luxury home décor and fashionable outfits. The items in this house have ornate detailing and prop as well as French antiques to decorate modern furniture. There are lots of gold items. It is also very organized, where little things are placed into clear bowls and organizing containers. This person prefers metal, white, and clear containers than wicker baskets because the modern luxury style is about a polished and clean style rather than natural and earthy. The bedroom dresser has makeup organized inside white and clear containers, next to personal photos of family, friends and pets. There might also be a clear bowl filled with makeup samples. The glass coffee table might include a stack of three or four books as well as some modern or ornate props for décor. The side table in the hallway also displays some antiques, props, and even a plant. Interesting photos are placed overhead to highlight the items, like inside a European museum. But each room mostly contains minimal pieces that give an overall look of modern luxury and sophistication. They might also be an ornate chandelier inside an all-white dining room.
